Shining a light on characterful lamps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Own a small home and wondering how to make it packed full of personality and charm? Let your style shine brightly by adding characterful lamps<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smaller rooms in Victorian homes and cottages have charm in abudance, but they do take a little thinking about. After all, being an owner of a smaller home, you\u2019ll know how to shop for little lovely things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, for those who\u2019ve just bought a period home, adjusting to working your style into smaller spaces does takes some thought. Often, people feel they need it to be bright and they\u2019ll paint the space white. Then if feels less cosy – yes it\u2019s lighter but less charming somehow. After all, the Victorian era is synonomous with the deep emerald greens and regal velvety burgundy tones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darker rooms can be a bit claustrophobic and oppressive. What to do? How do you achieve that perfect country cottage look you longed for. Let us here at Bespoke Lights shed some light on the subject. Neither dark or light paint and decor is wrong, so just pick the colour you want. No matter the colour, you can\u2019t rely on paint alone when working with little rooms, you\u2019ll need to cosy it up with furnishings and most importantly table lamps<\/a>. Light won\u2019t always come from small windows – even big windows are dark at night, on a rainy day or when the sun is at the other side of the house. We, here in the UK can not rely on sun filled evenings, so clever lighting is key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Characterful Table Lamps<\/a> to cosy up your home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ceiling and wall lights<\/a> are great but in older homes, the installing of these may not be straight forwards. Go for side table lamps<\/a>. Table lamps are useful for 2 reasons. A lamp or preferably lamps bring the delightful pools and pockets of warm light that make the room more welcoming. Ambience, that word that means the vibe or feel of a space is often created by low level lighting. Table lamps are often called ambient lamps for this reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OK, so on a long sideboard with a mirror above a pair of matching lamps can create a fabulous feature. Definitely go for this if you have a long wall available to you. however if space is at a premium opt for an array of differing heights and styles. Matching lamps of exactly the same can look a bit boring in a smaller room. To avoid being predictable, mix thing up a bit. Having some commonality between lamps is good, but it\u2019s not bad to just go with what appeals to you either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you\u2019ve created little unique vista\u2019s around the room! It stops you getting bored with your own surroundings and you can alway move the lamps around to change the look if you do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you choose the perfect little lamp for the space, why not use that lamp to lead the authority of what ornaments you put around it. This makes the overall look more appealing, your guests notice you have a unique style and they see you as clever! People always think you have design flair if they couldn\u2019t think of that, you just wait and see, it\u2019s amazingly true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t sweat the small stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘The fabulous thing about dressing a small room, is that you can dress little parcels of space differently. A small side table is easier to dress nicely when you are not having to think of the room as a whole design.  Do a little here and there. A few well styled areas together creates a uniquely characterful space, that no one but you could have created. Don\u2019t be afraid of this, that’s exactly why small cottages are so charming, cosy and chocolate box perfect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pottery lamps and ginger jars bring pattern and pizzazz to\nsmall rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tall table lamps allows ornaments and object below to be\nbathed in light. If you have special objects that deserve to shine why not put\nthem in the limelight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smaller squat lamps bring interest and a puddle of light\nlower into the room, very useful to bring interest down to a lower level\nespecially when you have lower ceiling heights. Always try to bring light at\ndifferent heights in a space this is important for rooms with high or low\nceiling heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a final note even if you don\u2019t have a socket where you want a lamp to be doesn\u2019t mean give up. Candles and storm lanterns look super stylish too. Battery powered candles can be magical when dressed with foliage. We\u2019d recommend battery powered candles rather than real, less risks involved as no flames are used. We all know it\u2019s expensive to insure a thatched roof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
