WEEE Regulations

The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEE regulations) is now UK law. The Regulations are designed to prevent and reduce the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment by promoting its reuse, recycling and recovery. The separate collection of WEEE saves energy and resources and avoids hazardous substances ending up in landfill. If these materials end up in landfill they can leak, cause water and soil contamination and be harmful to wildlife and human health.
Electrical and electronic equipment is any product that uses electricity or batteries to perform its main function, for example a light fitting or a torch. Products covered by the WEEE Regulations have a crossed out wheelie bin symbol either on the product itself or its packaging. Please do not throw away any item marked with the crossed out wheelie bin symbol in your household waste and please do not attempt to repair any electrical products yourself as this is a job for a qualified electrician.
Distributors, producers and retailers (including on-line retailers) must provide a system which allows customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. The Regulations state we must take back old electrical fluorescent light fittings, lamps and tubes and ceiling fans and controls and dispose of them in accordance with the Regulations. As a responsible retailer, we are meeting the requirements placed upon us by offering customers buying new electrical equipment free take-back of their old electrical items on a like for like basis. Please contact us if you are purchasing an electrical product from us on-line and would like us to dispose of your old one. Unwanted items should be returned to us within 28 days of purchasing the new product. The cost of returning the items will not be paid by Bespoke Lights and for this reason you may find it more convenient and cost effective to take the item to your local recycling centre.
