In this new series of blogs we will be turning the spotlight on our lighting collections. Each of our collections has a unique identity and none more so than our Copenhagen Glass Collection.
Designed and manufactured in Denmark this collection, as the name would suggest, has a strong Scandinavian flavour. Denmark has an enormous passion for lighting and design and our Copenhagen Glass Collection shares this passion as it showcases decorative lights made using glass as a core material, combining it with metals and textiles. All the lights have mouth-blown glass shades and are hand finished ensuring each light is unique – these are not mass produced lights fittings that you see everywhere. This is inspirational lighting in a simple, airy Nordic style that is both functional and easy on the eye. The collection continues to build on its traditions, combining unique enduring designs with a modern twist. The result is a style that infuses light and transparent coloured glass to create a real warmth and beauty.
Coloured glass has been popular for many centuries and is used frequently for decorative objects but it really come to life when it is illuminated. The great thing about artisan blown glass light fittings is that they are totally unique and no two will look exactly the same.
The Rowan pendants shown here are from the signature range in our Copenhagen Glass Collection. These charming pendants come in clear or translucent coloured glass and are supplied with twisted, braided cables.
They really do lend themselves readily to the dining experience making particularly attractive lights over kitchen and dining room tables and lighting over kitchen islands and breakfast bars. If they are used with a dimmer switch they give lovely low-level intimate lighting which will make that special occasion feel really ‘special’. The Rowan pendants can be used individually or for greater impact a group of pendants could be arranged together in a row or cluster using different colours and sizes hung at different heights. This kind of effect can create a truly unique lighting scheme for coffee shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
For a slightly quirky twist the Rowan pendants are also produced with metallic stripes or dots and to achieve a co-ordinated look they can be teamed with matching wall lights in the range.
GLOW in a DOME and SPEAK UP!
The Glow in a Dome is the smaller cloche like table lamp whilst the larger lamp is the Speak Up! These lamps are simply designed yet elegant feature table lights that will create a warming glow in your home. They have simple bases topped by a clear or coloured mouth blown glass dome with the bulb propped up inside like an old fashioned stage microphone.
Glass is a wonderful medium for drawing attention to interesting shapes and the latest additions to our Copenhagen Lighting Collection illustrate this perfectly. In the Futura range the sensuous curves of the transparent coloured mouth blown glass are combined with metallic or cut crystal detailing. The pendants are supplied with 2 metres of cable making them ideal for lighting high ceilings. A group of these pendants hung in a stairwell or entrance hall would certainly look stunning.
The more simply designed Lute pendants are so named because they were inspired by the distinctive rounded shape of the musical instrument of the same name. They again combine transparent coloured glass with metallic detailing to give a light, airy diaphanous look that resembles a large tear-drop.
We hope we have encouraged you to bring some beautiful coloured glass lighting into your home. Our Copenhagen Glass Collection showcases unique handmade glass lighting. You can certainly buy cheaper mass produced lights but if you are looking for something with a little more class and style this collection is a sure winner.
