Rise and Fall Ceiling Pendants for all settings. Create the perfect unique ambience.

Rise and fall ceiling pendants, or pull up and down lights, offer super flexible lighting by putting you directly in charge. These versatile self-adjustable pendants do exactly what they say – simply pull them down for a focused downward light or push them back up for a brighter ambient spread of light.
Above are two Provence rise and fall ceiling lights in old bronze and antique brass finishes. The pulley system and counterweight balance that permits the pendants to be lifted and lowered on the braided wires are readily visible. A classic style with a retro feel.

Characteristic rise and fall pulley lights initially appeared in France in the early 1900s, where they were used to illuminate tables in bistros and cafes. They have the same design elements as ordinary ceiling pendants: they are suspended from the ceiling and hang down like a typical pendant, but instead of a set suspension, they can be readily changed to change the hanging height.
This allows them to be utilised in spaces with slightly lower ceiling heights where a regular hanging pendant would be difficult to fit because they can simply be pulled back up when not in use. All the benefits of versatile pendant lighting without worrying that the light is too low.

Modern day Rise and fall lights are incredibly adaptable; using contemporary methods, they can even be made in a wall light style. This further increases the number of custom designs. The light above is the SQUIRE ANTIQUE BRASS RISE AND FALL SWIVEL ARM WALL LIGHT
Rise and Fall Lights are a perfect companion for anyone looking for a light that is perfectly suited for close work.
Today, rise and fall ceiling pendants are popular for lighting over dining tables, breakfast bars and kitchen islands. These are often multi-functional spaces and lighting requirements will vary depending on the activity being undertaken. This makes rise and fall pendants an even more attractive option.

Install a dimmer switch and you will have even more control over the amount and spread of light. Pull the pendant down and dim the light for an intimate, relaxed dining experience or turn the light up for reading and other close work. When not directly in use the pendant can be raised closer to the ceiling increasing the spread of light to give good ambient background light in the room.
Not only are rise and fall light fittings functional but they are also very stylish. They make a great focal point and with both modern and traditional styles to choose from you should certainly be able to find the perfect light to enhance your room. Pendants can be made using glass, ceramic china, natural metals and whole range of painted finishes in both neutral and vibrant colours. They can be used individually over small tables and breakfast bars or 2 or more could be suspended over larger tables and kitchen islands.

The traditional rise and fall ceiling light above is from our Period Lighting Collection. It is handmade and designed in the UK. A very high-quality solid brass light that has been waxed and polished and has a natural antique tarnish. Other shade alternatives are available, and it is delivered fully assembled with the coolie glass shade displayed. Perfect for traditional country kitchens and more rustic settings.
The majority of rise and fall pendant lights use a counterweight balance mechanism much like the original French designs, whilst some of the more modern, keenly priced rise and fall pendants use just a simple curly cable suspension. In either case, they are designed to allow for simple height and light-spread adjustments as needed. Enjoy all the drama and stylish good looks of ceiling pendant lighting with the added bonus of the push me, pull me, rise and fall facility.
