A CRYSTAL CHANDELIER IN MY BATHROOM?

When you think of a crystal chandelier you probably have in mind a grand dining room or hallway in a large house decorated with a glamorous light fitting dripping with expensive crystals. What you probably won’t be thinking of is having a chandelier in your bathroom. Until quite recently most bathrooms were lit by simple flush fitting ceiling lights. Whilst these are undoubtedly a practical option they add little in the way of style. Fortunately, today we can choose bathroom lights that are both elegant and stylish as well as being safe for using in the bathroom environment. The Marquis by Waterford collection is a glamorous selection of quality crystal bathroom lights at surprisingly affordable prices. They will elevate bathroom lighting to previously unimaginable levels.

WHY IS WATERFORD CRYSTAL SO SPECIAL?

Waterford Crystal can trace its origins back to 1783 when the first glass blowing factories were established on land adjacent to Merchants Quay in the heart of the Irish harbour town of Waterford. Founded by bothers William and George Penrose, the company quickly gained a reputation and became known the world over for the clarity and purity of colour of their crystal. The original aim was to ‘create the finest crystal for drinking vessels and objects of beauty for the home.’ They enjoyed early success and even supplied pieces for the Royal Household of Queen Victoria to celebrate her Golden Jubilee.

If you are lucky enough to visit the House of Waterford Crystal in Ireland you will be greeted by this magnificent William Maddock clock. It took one artisan glass maker six months to complete, encasing the clock in 48 crystal panels and 250 decorative buttons, each exquisitely hand crafted. You can just see the bottom of a seahorse sat on the top of the clock – the seahorse is the logo of Waterford Crystal.

Today, the  traditional patterns made famous by the earlier glass makers form the basis for new product ranges. The Lismore pattern created by Chief Designer, Miroslav Havel remains the world’s best-selling crystal pattern. Although Waterford crystal is no longer made in Ireland, Marquis by Waterford are still dedicated to upholding the same core values that inspired their predecessors. Products are now made using K9 crystal, a modern high quality alternative offering great clarity and excellent reflective properties. This crystal is an excellent choice for the manufacture of high end chandeliers.

Now let’s have a look at some of the Marquis by Waterford crystal bathroom lights

ANNALEE RANGE

Dress your bathrooms to impress with these beautiful Annalee crystal bathroom chandeliers. There are 3, 5 and 8 light versions along with a compact 5 light version and a matching wall light. True Cinderella chandeliers that capture the style and elegance associated with the Waterford brand. They are suitable for using in a damp bathroom environment and are supplied complete with warm white LED bulbs.

BRESNA RANGE

The Bresna range includes, 3 different size flush fitting ceiling chandeliers with chrome frames dressed with assorted and hand cut and polished crystals. These fittings create a wonderful sparkle that can only be achieved by using real crystal. Ideal for low to average height ceilings and with an IP44 rating they are safe for a damp bathroom atmosphere.

The impressive suspended Bresna chandelier shown above would make a lovely glamorous, statement light for a larger size bathroom. Looks equally as effective in both traditional or modern bathrooms.

Many bathrooms are fitted with recessed downlights but the Bresna version, also shown above, takes the humble bathroom spotlight to a whole new level. As with all downlights, the main body of the fitting is recessed into the ceiling with just the chrome surround fitting flush on the outside. This is where the similarity ends as this light is decorated with cascading hand cut and polished crystals that hang down from the chrome surround creating a truly sparkling effect. It is a mains voltage fire rated fitting with an IP65 ingress protection rating making it safe for using in zones 1 and 2 of the bathroom. It is supplied complete with a low energy warm white LED GU10 spotlight bulb – also available with a cool white bulb if preferred.

The Bresna range is completed by this luxurious matching wall light which is festooned with assorted crystal droplets hanging from the chrome frame.

MOY RANGE

The Moy collection includes 3 different wall lights and 2 sizes of hanging pendant. They all offer exquisite hand cut and polished crystal squares that are formed together in a blanket pattern reflecting the light in a myriad of different ways. The long  wave wall light looks stunning over a bathroom mirror whilst the smaller curved wall lights can be used in more modest bathrooms.

The More pendants come in 2 sizes and are also available with champagne or smoked coloured crystals.

BANDON RANGE

The Bandon candle style chandeliers have an understated graceful elegance. The chrome fittings are dressed with hand cut and polished glass sconces and almond droplets and as they are semi-flush fittings they are a great choice for average height ceilings. Great for teaming with the matching twin wall light shown below.

NORE and ROBE CEILING LIGHTS

The flush fitting Nore ceiling lights are available in 2 sizes and are brimming with hand cut and polished crystal chains cascading down from a chrome ceiling plate. The crystal chains are protected and surrounded by a clear glass shade and lit by warm white LED bulbs. The Robe fitting shown on the right is a luxury bathroom pendant on a chrome fitting lavishly dressed with polished crystal almonds.

Most of us start and end each day in the bathroom and often spend a considerable time there. The average British male spends 855 days in the bathroom during his lifetime whilst women manage to cut this down to 770 days! When you take this into account it pays spend a little time getting it right as nothing is more depressing than a badly lit bathroom. Many of you may well be planning a bathroom renovation in the New Year and we would encourage you to not to overlook or skimp on lighting. Consider what functions you and the family will be being carrying out and factor in the necessary ambient and task lighting. Most bathrooms are designed to last between 10 and 15 years so planning properly will be time well spent.

We all know that water and electricity do not mix and for this reason it is important to ensure any light fittings installed in a bathroom comply with the current regulations.  We would urge you to read our earlier blog  on bathroom lighting regulations before choosing your light fittings – just click on the picture above.
