Bespoke Lights specialise in traditional lighting for period homes and contract lighting for hotels and hospitality lighting for pubs, bars and restaurants. We have an amazing collection of quality lighting that can be purchased ‘off the peg’ from our on-line store. But, what if you want something unique? As our name would suggest we are also a bespoke lighting company offering tailor-made lighting, custom-built lighting or bespoke lighting – whatever you want to call it – we do it. In this blog we will be taking a look at what we can offer outside of our standard lighting collections.
HERITAGE LIGHTING
Our Heritage Lighting Collection features traditional character light fittings hand crafted here in the UK. From small beginnings in the docklands of the East End of London re-creating Victorian carriage lamps, this Collection has grown to include a large selection of indoor and outdoor lighting. All the lights are handmade, with the majority of the work now being carried out in West Sussex.
EDWARDIAN LIGHTING
The hugely popular ‘Downton Abbey’ TV series ran from 2010 to 2015. Viewers eagerly tuned in to watch the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants unfold in Edwardian and post Edwardian Britain. This era also saw great advances in the world of lighting with the introduction of new electric lighting. Homes gradually moved away from oil lamps and gas lighting to embrace this new, cleaner electric light. However, at the time, not everyone was initially convinced by electric lighting. This wonderful quote from Downton Abbey’s Dowager Duchess, played so brilliantly by Dame Maggie Smith, shows there were some misgivings – ‘I couldn’t have electricity in the house. I wouldn’t sleep a wink. All those vapours floating about.’
SPACE AGE LIGHTING
This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing on 20th July 1969. As this historic event is celebrated, we would like to pay our tribute to the brave astronauts aboard the Apollo 11 spacecraft and showcase some of our space age lighting ranges. Lighting that is truly out of this world!
JAIPUR LIGHTING COLLECTION
Our Jaipur Lighting Collection features a selection of handcrafted ceiling pendants, table lamps and light shades made in India. These light fittings champion the local artisan techniques of small-scale producers located across India. No two lights are exactly the same – each one represents the work of an individual craftsman and the minor differences give an authentic ethnic character to the lights.

A LITTLE LIGHT READING
To celebrate World Book Day, this blog takes a look at how to provide the right lighting for reading at home.World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the world and is a celebration of books and reading. Its mission is to install a love of reading in young people which will hopefully last a lifetime. In the UK children are given book tokens which they can exchange for a book of their choice. Schools have special events often with the children dressing up as a character from their favourite book. Now in its 22nd year, World Book Day this year falls on 7 March 2019.
DECORATIVE LED FILAMENT LIGHT BULBS
For many years we have been accustomed to hiding our bulbs inside our light fittings. This was perfectly understandable as, until quite recently, light bulbs were not overly attractive and some were even downright ugly. With the introduction of the latest generation of LED decorative filament bulbs a whole new creative way of lighting has opened up. These bulbs are definitely designed to be shown off!
