BARE NECESSITIES – EXPOSED BULB LIGHT FITTINGS

It cannot be denied that the humble light bulb is one of the modern conveniences that has changed the way we live. At the simple flick of a switch we can have instant, trouble-free illumination. I’m sure there are few among us who would care to return to using smelly, dirty animal fat candles, oil lamps or gas lighting. It has been the practice for many years to cover naked light bulbs with shades and in fact many people really did not like seeing the bulbs at all. Exposed light bulbs were only seen in industrial factories and warehouses and certainly not in home interiors. All this has now changed as we are seeing exposed light bulb fittings being used not only for hospitality lighting but for lighting in the home too.

BATHROOM LIGHTING REGULATIONS EXPLAINED

One of our most frequently asked questions is ‘Can I use this light in my bathroom?’ Bathrooms are by definition ‘wet rooms’ and we all know that water and electricity don’t mix, so to ensure our safety there are specific rules and regulations that apply to bathroom lighting. They are applicable not only in commercial situations but also in our own bathrooms at home too. These regulations are rightly rigorous, stating that bathroom light fittings must be completely encased to avoid shorting and electric shock. For your own protection please don’t be tempted to use a conventional light fitting that is not specifically designed for bathroom use.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LIGHT THIS CHRISTMAS

We are certainly getting into Christmas mode here at Bespoke Lights and as usual struggling to find the right gifts for all our family and friends. This perennial problem haunts many of us every year – just what do you choose for those that are ‘hard to please’, or ‘have everything I need’ or even those that simply say ‘I don’t need a present’. If you are running out of ideas, why not consider lighting up someone’s Christmas by giving the gift of light.

Unique Lighting for Sloping and Vaulted Ceilings.

Bespoke Lights have introduced a great new range of hanging pendant lights that can be fitted onto slanted or sloping ceilings. They use specially adapted ceiling roses which fit onto the sloping ceiling allowing the drop rods to hang straight down. Whilst sloping ceilings are stunning, until now they have been a challenge to light. As we added this innovative range of lights to our website, it got us thinking that it would useful to have some expert hints and tips for anyone struggling with lighting slanted or vaulted ceilings.

Clever Ideas for Lighting Stairwells, Staircases and Hallways.

Stairwells and staircases are often regarded as connecting areas within a home that you simply pass through when going upstairs or from room to room and lighting is frequently overlooked. This is a shame and a missed opportunity to create something really special. Having a light at the top and bottom of the staircase may not be enough to ensure the stairs are well lit and safe for you and your guests and having a well thought out lighting plan will create an even, balanced flow of light around your home. Bespoke Lights have a great selection of high quality light fittings that can provide attractive and practical lighting solutions for your hallways, staircases and stairwells.
